Eugene Rotary Club

International

International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. In support of this avenue of service, the club has an active World Community Service committee.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.

  • The Annual Programs Fund is the primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. The mission of the Annual Programs Fund mirrors that of The Rotary Foundation: to support the efforts of Rotary International in the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.

  • In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus, one of the most ambitious humanitarian programs ever undertaken by a private-sector organization. PolioPlus was the catalyst for the World Health Assembly's resolution in 1988 to eradicate polio. Today, thanks to Rotary's US$500 million commitment and its leadership in mobilizing volunteers, the world is on the threshold of eradicating the poliovirus. The Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign supports the final push toward eradication.

  • The Permanent Fund ensures The Rotary Foundation’s ability to meet the urgent needs of the future through an endowment. An endowed contribution is a gift that the Foundation holds in perpetuity. The gift is invested, and only a portion of its investment return is used for purposes specified by the donor. To guard against inflation, the remaining investment return is added to the principal. The goal is to ensure that the principal maintains its real value over time. Thus, gifts to the Permanent Fund will grow and continue to support The Rotary Foundation for years to come.

Through the Eugene Rotary Scholarship Foundation, trustees receive and administer funds and other assets in the interest of scholarships, health and general welfare of the children and worthy young people of Eugene and its environs. Gifts or bequests may prescribe specific uses within the general purpose. The Foundation is funded through gifts to the Birthday fund.

The Eugene Rotary Charitable Trust is a general purpose charitable trust for which Articles of Incorporation were filed September 27, 1999. An IRS recognition letter has been obtained and contributions are tax deductible. The purpose is to create, promote, maintain and conduct a benevolent foundation for the advancement of educational, charitable and scientific purposes that fill human need. This allows all charitable activities authorized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. However, the bylaws provide that it will be a high priority to avoid competition with The Rotary Foundation.

How to Give

Every Rotarian is encouraged to give to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund each Rotary year (July 1-June 30). There are several annual giving recognition levels:

  • Rotary Foundation Sustaining Members give at least $100 each year

  • Rotary Foundation Double Sustaining Members give at least $200 each year, with District 5110 recognition

  • Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Society Members give at least $1000 each year, with District 5110 recognition

As you make gifts to The Rotary Foundation, you accumulate Paul Harris credit. When you reach the $1000 total annual giving level, you will be recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. For each subsequent $1000 in additional giving, you will receive multiple Paul Harris Fellow recognition.

PolioPlus and the Polio Eradication Fundraising Campaign are additional avenues of giving, and both are eligible for Paul Harris credit. The goal of the campaign is for each Rotarian to give $50 per year from 2002 to 2005.

You may make a donation to The Rotary Foundation by check or credit card through the club office or online. A convenient time to submit your gift is to include it along with your semi-annual dues payment. To establish a Rotary Business Portal user ID, you will need your RI number from the label of your Rotarian magazine (also available from the club office), and our club number (338).

To become a Permanent Fund Benefactor, member of the Bequest Society, or a Major Donor, or to give to the Fund in a variety of ways, visit Rotary International or contact the club office or a chair of the Rotary Foundation committee.

To make a gift to the Eugene Rotary Scholarship Foundation, send a check to the club office payable to the foundation.

To make a gift to the Eugene Rotary Charitable Trust, send a check to the club office payable to the trust. Your gift may be specified as restricted or unrestricted. Unrestricted funds support the activities of the Children with Special Needs committee and the Eugene Rotary Scholarship Trust.
